My Personal Statement Page
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I grew up in Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas during which time my
father completed medical school and his residency. My Grandfather who had
been a General Practitioner and General Surgeon, had instilled in me a desire
to learn the medical arts. As a youth, I gave myself a very strong foundation
in the sciences, and for the investigative process.
As I was able to learn several languages, I applied for, and obtained entrance to the prestigious Szeged Medical University, in Southern Hungary. The university I attended has a well know reputation for important research discoveries, as my desire was to have a very strong background in research medicine and to help make contributions into the ever expanding scope of medical knowledge. In Medical school I was very active in research, publishing, and in helping to teach my underclassmen.
I know the experience I acquired working in a country where medical costs must be strictly contained, due to the limited resources inherent in a
countrywide socialized medicine program, gave me a very good
understanding of the importance of preventive medicine. I had been given
special permission from my university to do my internship year here in the
United States, which I did at Baptist Medical Center.
My areas of special interests include preventive medicine, clinical trial recruitment, neonatal thermo-apnea-cardio-monitoring and bio-electrical diagnostic research. I am very actively involved in family oriented patient education regarding childbirth, breast feeding, SIDS prevention, and cord blood stemcell storage. Since 1995 I have been pursuing the goal of bring to Oklahoma a cord blood stemcell storage facility. I know the potential for such a facility would greatly improve the medical communities ability to increase the
standard and quality of care for the public.
I am Currently at the University of Oklahoma, College of Public Health, persuing a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH). The anticipated graduation date is in May 2001.
